After an exciting and overwhelming day in Diagon Alley, Harry and Hagrid return to London and are in Paddington Station when our next food appears:
"He bought Harry a hamburger and they sat down on plastic seats to eat them" (Sorcerer's Stone 86).
As a vegetarian, it would be easy for me to tell you to go buy your favorite brand of veggie burger and chow down. And it would be delicious; I eat them all the time. But I decided to adapt Dinah Bucholz' "Paddington Burgers" recipe from The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook instead.
You Will Need:
1 1/2 pounds soy ground-beef-style crumbles (easiest to use for this would be from Lightlife)
2 large eggs
1 onion, chopped and satueed until well-browned (you can do this in a skillet with a little water)
1 cup fresh (or canned) breadcrumbs
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 Tbs onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
For serving:
sliced onions
English mustard
lettuce
tomato
hamburger bun
1. Combine all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and mix well. Heads up, the veggie ground beef kind of looks like catfood... but it still tastes good, so don't worry!
2. Form the mixture into patties and cook on both side either in a sprayed skillet on medium-high heat, or on a barbeque. Note: I used a skillet, and I think I would've preferred the barbeque for the sake of cooking uniformly all the way through.
3. Serve on toasted hamburger buns with sliced onions (sauteed if you wish), English mustard, lettuce, and tomato.
Enjoy! And imagine you're in London's Paddington Station waiting for a train!
