Peas

Yay! A real vegetable! Although I think it's kind of funny that peas are listed among the things Harry likes to eat. He really is an "unusual boy":

"He had never seen so many things he liked to eat on one table: roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops and lamb chops, sausages, bacon and steak, boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, fries, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, ketchup, and, for some strange reason, peppermint humbugs" (Sorcerer's Stone 123).

My preferred method of eating peas is thawed but cold on salads... I don't generally cook them. But I realize that is not the normal pea-eating method. So we will use Dinah Bucholz' recipe for Buttered Peas from The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook.

You Will Need:
1 pound frozen peas
1 cup water
1/2 tsp sale
1/4 tsp pepper
2 Tbs butter
1 Tbs granulated sugar

1. Combine the peas and water in a small pot and bring them to a boil. Stir them, because the water combined with the freezing peas will just make one big green ice cube. Reduce the heat, and let simmer about 5 minutes, until peas are tender.

2. Drain the peas and return them to the pot.
3. Add salt, pepper, butter, and sugar. Stir until the butter melts and is well combined. Serve hot.

kind of looks the same as before in the picture...

No better way to get kids to eat their peas than by telling them there's sugar in it... anyway, enjoy!

Give peas a chance :)
