Baked Potato

In Britain, baked potatoes are called "jacket potatoes." But regardless of what they're called, they are the only food we know for sure was served at Harry's first Halloween feast:

"Harry was just helping himself to a baked potato when Professor Quirrell came sprinting into the hall, his turban askew and terror on his face" (Sorcerer's Stone 172).

Baked potatoes are a great staple food, and are both super easy to make and super versatile in methods of serving. We'll just go with the basics.

You Will Need:
However many Idaho/Baking Potatoes you'd like to make
Topping of choice
an oven
a fork

1. Wash your potatoes thoroughly (some people do eat the skins/jackets... like me!)
2. Poke each potato several times all over with a fork.
3. Place in an oven at 350 degrees and bake until soft (stab with a fork; when the potato slides off the end easily, they're done!).
4. Remove from the oven and slice down the middle. Smoosh the ends to smash up the potato innards a bit and top with your favorite garnish.

You probably know already that baked potatoes are delicious with a variety of toppings-- butter, sour cream, salsa, cheese, etc.-- so use whatever you fancy and enjoy!

  1. Baked potatoes and still baked potatoes in the UK. Jacket potatoes are just baked potatoes which have been baked inside their own personal 'jackets' of foil.
